Special Thanks

November 2004
This month we recognize two individual contributions. First, we would like to thank Mark Moseley of Coldwell Banker for an extremely generous donation to the More Mesa Preservation Coalition. Mr. Moseley is a native of Santa Barbara who also lives on the periphery of More Mesa. Our heartfelt thanks to Mark for this gift to MMPC!

We would also like to recognize David Chang of the Santa Barbara County Agricultural Commissioner's Office, for supplying MMPC with some of his photos of invasive weeds for our web site. We appreciate his helping us to fill in the gaps. Thanks David!

October 2004
Since early 2001, Direct Mail Works has consistently assisted MMPC with advice and financial support on general mailings to our supporters and community. In addition, they recently donated all the envelopes required for our next newsletter mailing, which is scheduled for the early part of January. Thanks Direct Mail Works!

September 2004

This month's special thanks go to Rick Wheeler, Deputy Director of the County Parks Department, for helping protect and enhance the resource of the 35 acre More Mesa County Park (northwest corner of More Mesa). Rick has acted as the ideal public servant; interested, open to suggestions and willing to work with the community. When MMPC expressed concern over the deleterious effects of homeless encampments and BMX tracks on the Park, Rick acted expeditiously, but with a light hand, to rectify the situation. Earlier this year, Rick and Parks staff assisted the Coalition in restoration efforts. We commend this dedicated public servant for his efforts. Thanks Rick!!

August 2004
We take this opportunity to thank a very special young man … our MMPC legal intern Kevin Walsh. Kevin, a University of Connecticut law student, had spent many summers as a boy on More Mesa. His fond memories of this magical place prompted him to seek out ways he could help. Finding MMPC through our web site, he contacted us in the spring, with an offer to volunteer his time for two months. Arriving in early June, Kevin has been a major player, and an integral part of all our activities to protect More Mesa. We are grateful for his expertise, enthusiasm, energy and commitment. Our heartfelt thanks to Kevin for his generous service to More Mesa and our Santa Barbara community.

July 2004
This month’s special thanks go to those generous organizations and people, without whose financial support, we would not be able to pursue our mission of preserving More Mesa forever.

  •
  • Shoreline Preservation Fund The Shoreline Preservation Fund (SPF) has a special place in our hearts, since they were the first organization to provide funds to tangibly further our mission. An SPF grant, awarded in early 2001, allowed the publishing and distribution of our beautiful pamphlet, More Mesa, Jewel of the South Coast. In addition, a recent SPF grant is financing a Newsletter describing current issues pertinent to More Mesa, as well as MMPC’s plan for 2004-2005.

  •
  • Goleta Valley Land Trust Subsequent to release of our 2001 pamphlet, the Goleta Valley Land Trust (GLVT) awarded MMPC an extremely generous grant to enable a wide range of activities. In addition to funds associated with supporting day-to-day activities, GVLT funds allowed us create, or be part of, the following exciting events ...

  •
  • More Mesa Symposium at UCSB - March 2003
  •
  • Restoration Event in More Mesa County Park - March 2004
  •
  • Earth Day - April 2004

  •
  • Individual Donors Over the past two years more than 70 individual donors have generously supported MMPC in our mission to secure this beautiful and very special open space.

This month's special thanks go to a list of photographers, without whom we could not share all the magnificent images you see on this site, in our printed material and in our outreach programs. These include:

  •
  • Douglas Herr: for the use of our beautiful "Kite" logo image
  •
  • William B. Dewey: for a series of wonderfully illustrative aerials
  •
  • Mark Bright: for aerial photos and other signature images in our pamphlet and outreach programs
  •
  • Melissa Kelly: for historical and other aerials

And, finally, our most special thanks to Lynn Watson, whose hundreds of plant, bird, butterfly, and landscape images both educate, and breathe incredible life into our story of the richness of More Mesa.

    May 2004
Our special thanks this month goes to Steve Gaither of Photo Tours. Between last summer and January of this year, Steve worked with us to successfully host several different photo tours.
